Through the fantastic efforts of the Mo Bros, Mo Sistas and the generosity of the New Zealand public Movember has raised $2,980,000 in its first two years as a formal fundraiser. All the funds raised by the 2006 and 2007 Movember campaigns were directly passed through to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand (PCFNZ) who are using the money to:
With so much money raised for prostate cancer in the past two years Movember decided to add another major men's health issue to the cause in 2008 - men experiencing depression. The funds raised by Movember 2008 will be split between two of the best health charities in the country. Half will go to the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand's Out of the Blue campaign to help men experiencing depression and the other half will go to the Cancer Society of New Zealand who need funding for existing prostate cancer research programs and men's health programs. These causes were selected because Movember has always been about sticking up for men's health and in addition to prostate cancer, another big issue for blokes is depression. One in ten Kiwi men experience depression every year. Movember's support for Out of the Blue will see new depression resources available at a time they are most needed.
