My motivation

151.

That’s the number of men between the age of 25-44 that took their lives in 2018 (the most recent year on record). Men represent over 71% of all death by suicide in NZ. This year I’ll be running & walking 151 km in the name of men’s health.

Those of you who know me well will know that mental health, namely bipolar disorder, is something that has been the cause of much distress for me and my family over the last few years.

It’s a unrelenting disease, as soon as you feel like you’re winning on one front you start to lose on another.

Although we’ve improved in recent times, Kiwi men are experts in hiding what’s going on in their lives; myself included. Often some fresh air, exercise, or simply catching up with your mates for a beer can help ease the huge weight we carry.

So this year I’m encouraging you all to get out there, talk to your mates (force them out of the house if you have to) and spread the word for a fantastic cause!
