This speedway season is dedicated to raising awareness and opening everyone up to the idea, that it’s okay to not be okay.

This is something I hold close to me as I am one of these people. On the outside I’ll be the happiest guy around. But deep down that’s not always the case. It’s time to practice what I preach. Following this I have realised that I’m not alone. The more people I start to open up to, the more people I realise are just like me.

In New Zealand, the rate of suicide is alarmingly high, particularly in men. Too many men are ‘toughing it out’, keeping their feelings to themselves and struggling in silence. Many men are too hard to admit when they are down, that includes myself. Together we can normalise that it’s okay to be down, it’s okay to fight the struggles but most importantly it’s okay to talk. Make sure you reach out to your closest brother, father, uncle, son or mate. You never know what is going on. Get them on the phone, or out to the local and get the I love you bro’s flowing.
