My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Mental health and suicide prevention

I've lost close friends and family because simply having a kōrero was 'not the done thing' and I'm an advocate for checking in, and being there when it counts.

I lost a good friend who distanced himself, likely because of depression and not knowing how to navigate this world, and I regret not meeting him where he needed me to be.

Because of Shane, I recognise it's okay to not be okay.

It's also okay to not know how to articulate how you're feeling.

What's not okay is when you know someone has mental health challenges and you take that personally, because what I learned is asking for help might show up as behaviour, body language, or other more nuanced communication. Our obligation is to hear what people are saying when what they're saying might look like (or could bae taken as) something else.

My goal for Movember is to remind myself and others to be available and there, and to make it as easy for people to connect where they need it most.

Globally, the rate of suicide is alarmingly high, particularly in men. Too many men are ‘toughing it out’, keeping their feelings to themselves and struggling in silence. Help me stop men dying too young.
