Men's health Prostate cancer Mental health and suicide prevention Testicular cancer
As someone who has struggled in past with mental health and having friends affected by testicular and prostate cancers, Movember is a cause dear to my heart.
I've passively participated in Movember every year since 2013, but this year I wanted to make a tangible difference.
This year I am getting on board with the fundraising as well as having conversations to destigmatize men's mental health and to bring about healthy conversations around the topic.
Some stats for you:
1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate or testicular cancer, and 1 in 30 die from the disease.
Testicular cancer is the most common cancer among men aged 15-35.
Both forms of cancer have high likelihood of survivability (>95% if detected and treated early enough).
1 in 8 NZ men will experience serious depression during their lifetime.
Globally, on average 1 man dies by suicide every minute of every day.
Thanks to all who came to the Movember Speaker event with Richie Barnett yesterday, and to all those who joined us online at either our streaming hubs or on your own devices!
