This November, the beard comes off and the moustache goes on, not for appearance, but for purpose. Some things ask more of us than comfort, pride, or vanity. If a simple act can spark a conversation, raise a few dollars, or remind one bloke that he doesn't have to carry his burden alone, then it's a small price to pay.
The measure of a man is not found in what he keeps for himself, but in what he is willing to give for others. This is simply one small way to do that.
Cricket has always been more than a game to me. It's been a place of perspective, a reminder that every innings has setbacks, every spell has hard overs, and every match offers another chance to stand up and keep going.
This year I'm honoured to have represented the Movember Cricket Club in the Defence Force inter services Tournament in February and later at the end of November during Movember in the Test Match against the Defence Force XI and donning a mustache for a cause that matters makes every run, every wicket, and every over mean a little more.
Movember's message is simple,
Grow a Mo to Help Save a Bro.
Men's mental health isn't a battle anyone should have to face alone. If growing a moustache, playing the game I love, and raising a few dollars can help another bloke find hope, purpose, or the courage to ask for help, then it's worth every whisker.
We cannot always choose the challenges placed before us, but we can choose how we meet them. This November, I'm choosing to meet mine with a ball in hand, a moustache on my face, and a commitment to leave the world a little better than I found it.
If you're able, I'd be incredibly grateful for your support. Every donation helps. Every conversation matters. Every moustache counts, let's help get anyone struggling that all important asterisk*
