My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Mental health and suicide prevention

This is my fifteenth year of being involved with Movember and unfortunately a few years ago I truly learnt what it meant to lose someone to suicide having lost my younger brother Ian and a great friend Austin.

Ian passed in April 2017 and Austin the following year in October 2018.

When someone leaves you in this way, you are left with only questions, lost opportunities and only memories no longer able to build new ones.
Make sure that you tell the people in your lives that you love and care for them, you never know when it will be the last time you have that opportunity.

My brother Ian was just 39. At the time leaving behind his wife and three children ranging from 1 to 11.
Great Memory – My mum always rung to sing Happy Birthday, every year without fail. When she passed away, that year Ian rung and sung Happy Birthday not only to me but he also rang Vanessa on het birthday to sing to her.

My great mate Austin was just 38. At the time leaving behind his wife and two children ranging from 4 to 8.
Great Memory – If you knew Austin, you would go yep definitely an Austin thing. A long time ok, we were away with four other couples for a weekend away. Austin managed to eat all the peanuts and cashew nuts I had brought along. Close to 1.5kg, later that night he comes out to the living area to his partner (later to be wife) in a very whiney voice “I’ve got a sore tummy”

In the twelve months to the end of June 2024 we have lost another 617 people to suicide in NZ, this is an increase of 9%.

Of the 617 suicides over 445 were men. The continued work that has been done on removing the stigma about asking for help is great, but we have more to do to ensure anyone that is at risk is able to get the professional help they need.

So dig deep and support a great cause. I have a goal of raising $1,500, which if I reach, I will donate $500.
