So this year was a major physical and mental health year for me. Woke up early hours on April 11th with my right side paralysed by what I would later find out to be my second ischemic stroke (blood clot in brain). As a relatively fit triathlete with this was both unexpected and really challenging mentally.
So 6 months of rehab, a touch of heart surgery and a whole lot of sweat, I've learnt to walk again, (mostly) use my right hand, and will be doing my first post-stroke triathlon on 24th November.
It's not about what I can't do any more, it's about doing what I can do. Fearing not living more than dying.
And realising that these things can happen to literally anyone. Just thankfully the stronger and healthier you are if and when it happens the better the outcome is going to be.

Woohoo. As we enter the last week the Tauranga office enjoyed some baking and some donating. Yesterday I reached the movement goal I set of safely getting to the finish line of the Triathlon yesterday. And today, thanks to some amazing generosity from the good people of Taranga (GHD and beyond) I went past the $1000 dollar mark.

A couple of big Mo'mements.

More than half way through and by all accounts this year's Mo is by far the worst I've grown.

Another day, another run. really crappy weather today, but the plan said bike/ride, so that's what I did. Routine is everything, and for me my 'cheat' is always to get all my gear out (bike in car) the night before so in the morning it seems easier to just get on with it.

Post run swim to round off a busy weekend of training. Finding ne-Mo?

Fly-Mo
Day trip to Wellington yesterday for work. flew down on the 6:30 flight, and normally that would mean a day off exercise. But it's movember, and so I worked out I could leave my running kit in the car, get changed in airport loos and run from there. avoided hitting the worst of traffic and I still got my exercise and me time after an 11.5 hour work day.

Another Sunday and another opportunity to get out and have a good jog. So up early to watch the rugby, then out the door as soon as that was done. So bit of discipline last night with getting kit sorted, but worthwhile for 90 minutes of 'me time'. For me then running is doubly beneficial as it's got obvious physical health benefits, but it's also a time to be away from the phone, internet and all the other stresses of modern life. I miss being able to trail run, but I'm finding ways (well coach Chris is) to vary the road running enough to stop it being a chore and retain the mental relaxation.

Just over a week in and the mo is definitely at the 'trapping snacks for later' stage.

Clocked 126km of running now too, and enjoyed every step of it after so much time off.

Gorgeous start to the day and first chance to inflict the mo on the general public. Up early and out the door for a run before the sun came up which meant I got to see dawn arriving over the harbour and mount. Since getting back into a routine of morning exercise not only have I felt better physically, but mentally I'm way happier and resilient. Was small steps at first, just doing half an hour or so on the exercise bike every other day, but from that start then I've continued to really value this 'me' time each day.

Day 5 and we have Mo.

Day 1. So just the normal gormless look and nothing more frightening than that.
