Movember’s Mo Your Own Way, is a choose-your-own adventure fundraising challenge, epic in scope and scale, raising much-needed funds and awareness for men’s health throughout the hairy month. We chat with three Auckland Mo Bro's who are doing just that. They have taken on an epic driving challenge from Auckland to Dunedin with the goal of raising $20,000 for Movember.

Although the Auckland to Dunedin route may seem simple, Ryan, Elliot and Lance have designed a series of challenges along the way to not only test the capabilities of these cars, but also push themselves. Lance O'Grady explains how the idea came about.

“We had been talking about doing a "Cheap Car Challenge" style event for about 5 years and it was a few weeks ago where we decided it was just time to do it. We really wanted to get a charity element into it and we were already thinking Men's Mental Health might be a good focus. Then it dawned on us that Movember would be a perfect fit and something a bit different to the classic moustache growth, which unfortunately I cannot grow.

“Everyone knows someone affected by either cancer or mental illness. My dad got Prostate cancer about 10 years back (and is fully recovered now) but it really brings home the importance of taking care of yourself!”

Here are the rules they have settled on:

The Rules:
• The car must be older than January 1, 1990
• No hotels, motels or BnBs. You must sleep in (or around) your car
• We all start in the same place and meet at checkpoints along the way for challenges
• Points will be awarded for the various challenges throughout the trip
• Points will be deducted for breakdowns, roadside support and bonnet openings
• All cars must follow the designated route. and compete in all challenges

They will be leaving Auckland on the 26th November, and will arrive in Dunedin on the 1st December. The trio already has big plans to make this an annual event and have lined up ten others to join them for 2021.
