AO Dean Team
Aorere College Deans

$0

Target: $2,000
Our Motivation

One of our Deaning Team's dad is fighting cancer again in Hawera. Simon hasn't been able to visit his dad Jack because of Delta. The Deans Team is committed to walking to Hawera (404km away) to visit Jack and offer our virtual support. We are "Hitting the Road to visit Jack" this Movember 2021. Our goal is $1000 or more and we hope that as a team we can get to Hawera and not get stuck somewhere on the Desert Road. Help us "Hit the Road to Visit Jack" AO NEVER FOLD!

Gisborne, we have arrived. Been busy so updates have not been as frequent. Not long to go till the end of Movember, 3 days. One last push to finish strong. Need to get back to Auckland peeps, so walk and post your walls to make sure we get back home. Kia kaha!

Taupo to Napier over the past few days. Staying in the art deco capital of NZ, now we point our toes north and follow the coast for a while. We have just over a week to make it back. Let's go team.

We are in Taupo, Sue Johansson favorite place to escape from Auckland. The attached image is Sue's place in Taupo which is her happy place. From Taupo we are going to head over to Napier and come back up through Gisborne. We have 14 days to walk 835km. That's an average of 60km a day. We can do this.

93 km weekend moves by the team. From Ohingaiti all the way to that unforgiving Desert Rd. Heading into the second half of the month, team is still going strong. Don't give up guys, we are taking the scenic route back and need to collectively walk at least 51km a day for the rest of the month. We can do it. Lesshhhhhgo.

Awesome distance yesterday from the team. Over 80km clocked. Left Ratana walked through to Bulls, then hung a left and joined SH1 to make our way back to Auckland. Was a long hot day 11/11/21 but we made it through all the way to the Ohingaiti Hotel which was a nice place to stop, rest to go again in Friday. Walking into the weekend like a boss

Rotana Pa is approx 22 km out of Whanganui. The birthplace of the Ratana religion. The hot weather is a double edged sword, although lovely for walking the heat sometimes puts us off. Lowest daily total to date, only 22km. 'Ode to Coffee tomorrow, draw a coffee cup in your walk. Come team, let's get back to Auckland before we reach 90% vax rate. Faamalosi team.

Massive start to the week with over 80km ticked off today. Flew through Patea, Waverley, Normanby all the way to Wanganui. Our stop for the night is the team captains old stomping ground. Lived at 42 Helmore St for 5 years, the baby of the family was born in Wanganui and St James holds many fond memories. Nice to take a stroll down memory lane, Wangavegas for life.

AO is still a family to me. You were and still are just brilliant. I miss everyone terribly, but would love to catch up sometime.

You may not realise how much you all helped me through some rough times.. You care about people. So well done on this initiative

Cheers Pete

Day 8 and we made it to Hawera. It was a flying visit, didn't even have time to stop for a cuppa tea with Simon's parents before heading back out and finding an overnight stop at Mokoia School 28 km away from Hawera. Our lowest daily total, don't forget to post your km team, or else we'll be stuck in the middle of the North Island trying to sneak back into Auckland. Let's go hard, finish strong, AO never fold.

Welcome to Eltham. Little known fact about Eltham is that it's main industry is cheese and it was the first place in N Z to export butter. After only a week of Movember we are going to reach Hawera tomorrow.
This is amazing stuff team. Weekly challenge is to use the Map My Walk app and draw a flower to cheer us up this week. If you see deans on the field walking aimlessly looking at their phones there's some serious gardening taking place virtually. Have an awesome week whanau. Keep moving.

Day 6 of hitting the road to see Jack. Today the team converted a solid 53km and made it into the Mighty Naki. We are officially in the Taranaki. Today we covered from Mahoenui to Akititi School. I still have 37km to make up for my mistake in entering my data yesterday and so the total team km - 37 for an accurate reading today. Restful Sunday everyone.

66 km today team. At the end of day 5 we are in Mahoenui on the way to the coast. Instead of 4.4km I went and pushed 44, so now I have to minus 40km from our total for the real total. Hoping they will let me fix it. Its the weekend, well done for being through the week. Enjoy the weekend, keep on moving moving.

Welcome to Otorohanga, the Kiwi House actually, exactly 50 km from our stop last night at the bed and breakfast near Cambridge. Slow day at mahi today and most of the deans team got out for some attempts at writing their walks on the field. Smashed the target so going for double. Keep the spirits and enthusiasm up, still got a long way to go. One more day till the weekend. Lesshgo!

End of day 3. Weather wise not a good walking day. So cold, but we are fighters not whiners and managed to clock 53km as a team today. Made it to Hazelbank Bed and Breakfast just outside of Cambridge. Made it through the border despite the haters and the doubters. Looking forward to warmer weather for the rest of the week. Thank you to all who have donated, we have doubled our goal to 2000 because we got to the original goal 3 days after kicking it off. How amazing are we? Pretty darn amazing I say.

First day completed. Today we virtually walked as far as Ramarama School from Aorere College. Need to add our champion athlete Sue to the online team. She smashed out 17km on her own today.

Marie Sua: I walked 3.12 km

Slow start to the month. 4096 steps converts to 3.12km.
