Our Motivation

As the leaders of Tauranga Boys' College, a school of more than 2000 young men, we feel it is our responsibility to destigmatise and raise awareness around men’s mental health in New Zealand. Fortress 40 is a 40-hour challenge of extreme physical exertion—lifting, running, cycling, swimming, Waka Ama, boxing, cold-tolerance training and more. We will be pushing far beyond our limits to test both body and mind.

In 2025, we ask for your support: Cheer us on at Mount Maunganui Main Beach during our ‘Surf Torture’ sessions, and join us at Nicholson Field for the finale. Your encouragement makes a huge difference.
Surf Torture sessions – Mount Maunganui Main Beach
12:00 pm (Friday 12th September)
6:00 am (Saturday 13th September)
12:15 pm (Saturday 13th September)

Finale – Nicholson Field, Tauranga Boys’ College
From 3:00 pm, with the challenge ending at 4:00 pm (Saturday 13th September)

Together, we can change the way New Zealand thinks about men’s mental health.
