Well, here I am, in the last month of the year, taking a moment to reflect on the Movember that was. I went into the month thinking it would be a plain old November. That was until my Mo bro, Gary popped up clean-shaven and ready to get cultivating. That was the nudge I needed to get back on the mo-growing wagon.
Given I hadn't planned to get on the mo growing mish, I set my fundraising target to an achievable $200. By the end of the month, thanks to 19 generous souls, that $200 ballooned into $1000. Wow!
Over the month and particularly the weekend just gone, my heart was filled by the warmth and support that I felt from people all around. People bringing more awareness to mens health challenges. Maybe the most surprising aspect was how much my mo was complimented. I have to say, for a month's worth of mo growing, I ended up with a rather full-bodied strip of fuzz.
Sending out my heart-felt thanks to everyone that supported me by reaching into their pockets and all the hugs. It's so spesh to not just see but really feel how much me and so many other blokes are cared for. Thank you so very much! :D

Here we are, halfway through Movember, so I thought I'd better give you an update on my Mogress. After getting all excited about the kind of mo I could pull off in one month's worth of careful cultivation, I now realise that most of the options were just a tad ambitious. So, here I am with a stock standard 'stash.

I've spent a bit of time thinking about how my mental and physical health affects my wellbeing. Interestingly, when everything is working well, I don't give it much thought. It's when something isn't working, that it comes in to focus.

It's been around two years that I've been living sans spleen. For the most part, I haven't noticed much of a difference (thank you liver and lymph nodes for taking over). What has changed, is that I now have to take a daily pill to keep my platelets down. A complication caused by my blood condition, Polycythaemia Vera (PV). While my liver and lymph nodes are doing an excellent job of filling in for my spleen and PV can be easily managed, there is no current cure for PV. And this leads me to why I'm growing a mo again. I'm growing knowing that there will be new research, new cures, new innovations, new breakthroughs, new medications all leading to new leases of life.

This I know to be true: I wouldn't still be loving life if I weren't surrounded and supported by a most amazing bunch. Big thanks to all the friends, family and mates that have been there for me. The times I've struggled most, are when I've felt alone, particularly in my health challenges, both mental and physical. What I understand now is that I'm never alone, and always supported and loved and there is always someone who is there for me (even when I've convinced myself otherwise). Remember, whatever you are going through, someone is there for you too.
