My motivation
Fundraising for cause areas including:
Men's health

I am a bloke. Let's face it, on the whole, us blokes are all pretty rubbish in looking after ourselves in a number of areas of men's health.
Particularly in New Zealand where it's staunch to battle on through aches and pains, not talk about your feelings and just don't be a wuss in general. I certainly have been offered more than my fair share of concrete pills. When, in reality the opposite is what should be the truth.

When I turned 50 I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, and a year later with hypertension. I really hadn't looked after myself in the years prior. When I examined the root cause, a lot of it was the state of my mental health following the diagnosis and subsequent death of my wife from ovarian cancer. I felt fine, and was able to function, but I didn’t truly realise what was really going on. I had always been great at seeing issues with others, talking and more importantly listening to them. But not so much for myself. When I did sit up and take notice, I was lucky that I had an amazing support network there to help me out. Firstly my partner Dianne who encourage me to share my thoughts and feelings, something I have never been good at, and is still a work in progress. Then friends, work mates and gym buddies who have inspired and encouraged me to improve my mental and physical health. I’ve come a long way, and will continue to improve.

I feel lucky and so blessed. But there are plenty of good buggers don't have the support I have, know how to get help or are able talk about their mental health. I’m doing this for them. Movember is the leading charity changing the face of men's health, and this Movember I'm joining them. Together we can make a difference for men's health – in prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.
The rate of male suicide is alarmingly high: 7 out of 10 suicides globally, are men, and on average, 1 man dies by suicide every minute of every day. So as well as growing a poor excuse for a moustache I will be doing 60 push ups each day to acknowledge those lives lost to suicide.

Help me stop men dying too young by supporting me this Movember.
