My Movember Story — Finding My Way Back

Two years ago, my life hit rock bottom.
My wife and I separated, and she moved out with our kids. It was a wake-up call I didn’t see coming — and it forced me to face something I’d been trying to bury for years.

I battle depression.
Some days, it feels like I’m standing completely alone.

A lot of this traces back to a cycling accident where I broke my neck. I ended up with a cervical spinal fusion (C1–C3), and ever since, I’ve lived with chronic pain and the mental scars that come with it. I thought I was coping — pushing through, staying “strong” — but the truth is, I was angry, bitter, and broken. That pain leaked out in ways that hurt the people I loved most.

Then life piled on.
Our first child arrived seven weeks early. Watching her in the hospital, so tiny and fragile, scared me more than anything in my life. I was terrified we’d lose her. But she fought — just like her mum — and today she’s a beautiful, energetic six-year-old who lights up every room she walks into. Still, the pressure I put on myself to provide, protect, and never fail her was crushing.

Then came a miscarriage.
I didn’t deal with it — I didn’t even talk about it. I buried it deep, pretending I was fine. I wasn’t.

When our son was born, I hit another wall. I couldn’t bond with him. For the first six months, I could barely be in the same room. The guilt was unbearable, but I didn’t know how to admit it or ask for help.

Eventually, I broke. I became a shell of who I used to be.

But here’s the thing — I’m still here.
The past few years have been brutal, but also the most important of my life. I’ve had to rebuild myself from the ground up. With help, support, and a lot of honest self-work, I’m learning to take it one day at a time. Sometimes, one hour.

And I’ve learned something powerful — talking about it saves lives.
Opening up isn’t weakness. It’s survival.

That’s why I’m doing Movember this year.
To raise awareness. To speak for the guys who still feel like they can’t. To help fund programs that give men the tools and support to climb out of that dark place.

If my story hits home — if it reminds you of someone you care about — please donate. Every dollar helps change lives.

We can’t keep suffering in silence.
Let’s talk. Let’s help. Let’s fight this together.

Thank you for being part of my journey — and for helping others start theirs.

If I can get another $300 today I will donate the last $140 to get me to my target - I will also keep the MO until the end of October 2024….. please support me if you can!

104 Week(s) Ago

Please help me raise some more MOVEMBER funds - I am on $590 at present - what would make you donate?
Donate for a dare?
Donate for more physical exercise?
Auction off my MO?
Donate for me to wear an outfit of your choice?
Donate for a cold swim?
Donate for me to keep the MO until October 31st 2024, shave it off and start all over again? - this would need to be a substantial donation or I would need to reach the overall goal of $1500!!

105 Week(s) Ago

Please help me get to the $1500 target - this is important to me for so many reasons!! I will match todays donations (up to $100) and also increase me move goal to at least 100km!! We are in this together!!
