Our Motivation

Personnel from New Zealand's Emergency Service sector come to the rescue each year in the First Responders Challenge. Fire, Ambulance, Police, Rescue Helicopter and NZDF… we salute you. Last year, first responders across New Zealand came together and raised an incredible $80k with NZDF taking out the top fundraising spot. This year we are taking it to another level, with aim of raising $100,000 for Movember and the trophy and bragging rights is up for grabs once again!

A little note to say thank you so much for your support of Movember this year!

From BA 24-hour challenges and epic Mo’s being grown, to Movember moustache magnets proudly displayed on first responder vehicles, it was bloody inspiring to see crews across Aotearoa getting stuck in and wearing the cause loud and proud.

Thanks for coming together, sharing a few laughs, and most importantly, helping raise awareness and start vital conversations about men’s health in workplaces where looking out for each other truly matters.

Massive congratulations to NZDF for taking it out once again — leading from the front and setting the standard. While they may sit at the top of the leaderboard, this was a genuine team effort. Every single one of you played a part in making the first responder community an absolute force for good.

Awesome to see so much great activity across the First Responders this year. I wanted to highlight what Blake a volunteer firefighter is up to this year. Blake was diagnosed with testicular cancer last year but thankfully with early diagnosis Blake was operated on and is now cancer free. With some help from his fellow volunteers, on November 29th Blake will wear his firefighting breathing apparatus for 24 hours. During this time the Akaroa Volunteer Fire Brigade will be open to the public to show their support, a car wash will be run by our kitted-up crew and a classic sausage sizzle to round out the day. Feel free to post what's going on across your org!

Brad proudly accepting the First Responders Trophy on behalf of the New Zealand Defence Force for their 2024 efforts! Geez it was a close one between Fire and Emergency and NZDF last year, and we can't wait to see who takes it out in 2025. A huge well done to everyone who got involved.

What a cracking start to the month with almost 12k raised!

While we recommend resisting the urge to touch, stroke, fondle or feed the Mo’s, please don’t be shy when it comes to heaping on the praise and sharing what you're up to on your challenge pages. Feel free to post on some of the other teams pages too,
I can confirm that good-natured banter is proven to effectively increase Mo-lustre, potency and gains by upwards of 115%, 70% of the time. Every time.

Movember is excited to announce the global projects that will receive funding through the Veterans and First Responders Mental Health Grant Program, a $8.37 million initiative in support of veterans and first responders.

Movember launched the program with the aim of identifying promising mental health or suicide prevention programs and collaborating with those projects to demonstrate their effectiveness through rigorous program evaluation.
